In the beautiful countryside around Granada, Andalucia, Spain

Granada

Granada is situated in the east of Andalucia approximately 40 minutes drive from the Mediterranean Sea. It is one of 8 regional capitals of Andalucia and has a population of around 275,000, an average temperature of 15 degrees and some 250 sunny days per year!

The largest industries in the Granada province are agriculture and tourism. Andalucia is the largest olive growing region in the world and the province of Granada hosts over 2.5 million visitors every year. Delahoja Guesthouse itself has 167 olive trees which yielded over 4 metric tons of olives this year.

Historically Granada is one of the most important towns in Spain having been settled by the Moors for nearly 8 centuries and being the last moorish stronghold to be conquered by the christians in 1492. Relics of this rich history still remain such as the castle at Moclin and the famous Alhambra Palace which from the 13th to the 15th century was home to the Nasrid sultans, high ranking government officials servants of the court and elite soldiers.

Aside from museums and monuments Granada is excellent for shopping with several hypermarkets on the outskirts for your everyday needs. For nearly everything else there is El Corte Ingles, many designer shops, and craft shops selling many hand made wooden and ceramic products.
